American Cable Association President & CEO Matthew M. Polka On FCC Reform Of Universal Service Fund

PITTSBURGH,February 8, 2011 - "The AmericanCable Association commends the Federal Communications Commission for proposingmuch needed reform of the High-Cost Universal Service Fund that will helpensure universal access to broadband services effectively and efficiently. TheCommission properly seeks to balance these reform proposals by providing atransition from the current regulatory regime.

"ACA is heartened that the FCC's reformproposal seeks to ensure broadband is brought throughout the country whilelimiting the size of the fund, which will save consumers from paying highercommunications fees. ACA cautions that USF reform should be a deliberateprocess, one that provides local telecommunications entities now drawing fromthe fund with sufficient time to adjust to the newly reformed program. Theseentities have built telecommunications networks throughout vast areas of thecountry, and our leaders need to recognize that these networks provide vitalservices to many Americans."
