PITTSBURGH, December 18, 2015 - ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka issued the following statement in response to passage of a new cybersecurity law allowing voluntary information sharing, among other things:
"ACA pleased that Congress has taken an important step to improve cybersecurity by passing legislation to remove existing barriers to voluntary cybersecurity information sharing. As President Obama has previously stated, information sharing among private entities and with federal agencies can play a crucial role in addressing cyber threats to public health and safety, national security, and economic security. By providing liability protection to companies that share cybersecurity information stripped of privacy content, this legislation will help ISPs, especially smaller broadband operators that lack the resources to navigate the existing risks and liabilities associated with information sharing, to do even more to secure their networks from ever-increasing cyber threats, while also protecting the privacy and civil liberties of all Americans.
"ACA appreciates the bipartisan effort that has led to the passage of this legislation, and looks forward to working with the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies in our continuing efforts to promote information sharing and improve the cybersecurity of our nation."
